Hi, I’m Vicki! I live in New Zealand. My husband Shaun and I have been married 20+ years and have two daughters and two sons. Recently I started a Social Work degree at the University of Auckland.
My parents immigrated to New Zealand when I was three years old. My father is from England; my mother, Kiribati (google it, haha!). I spent five years of my childhood in Honiara; Solomon Islands. We regularly traveled back to Kiribati or to the UK; with stop overs in various places so I always felt I belonged ‘nowhere’ yet ‘anywhere’…
Kiribati, English and Pidgin English were my first languages and I studied Japanese in highschool, I trained as an ESOL Teacher in 2002 and I’ve always been interested in linguistics. As well as studying I’m a ‘mainly music’ (pre-school) session facilitator and have run sessions in schools, community centres, the Auckland Refugee Resettlement Centre and the Women’s Prison.
I love doing up furniture pieces from second hand shops and enjoy other creative outlets. I find elements of psychology and attachment theories intriguing. I believe meditating on the right, true things, can actively rewire our brains/thoughts and behaviours.
When engaging with my blog, I hope you get some value and inspiration for some area/s of your life. xx
